On December 16th, 1773 the first genuine Americans rowed toward anchored ships in Boston harbor owned by the East India Company intent on the destruction of odious repression. The East India Company, based in London, was the Wal-Mart of its day. Granted a charter monopoly by the British Monarchy the EIC paid no taxes to the American Colonies while placing onerous taxes on them, taxes which were then repaid to the British Crown.   The Americans endured the British Currency Act of 1751 forbidding the Colonists from issuing Colonial scrip (a.k.a. fiat currency). As taxation without representation festered within the British System of parliament the Americans were slowly, surely being economically enslaved by the British. Colonists supporting the Crown were called Loyalists or Tories, Colonists supporting independence and the idea of Republic were called Patriots. Up is up. War is war.

On April 9th, 2011 Americans of all stripe and color were dealt a body blow by a Republican Congress led by Speaker Boehner. House Majority Speaker Boehner is a liar who is bought and paid for by the American Oligarchs. The English Crown pulled the strings of the East India Company taxing the Americans through and through. Make no mistake about this. There are Loyalists, Tories among us now. They are called Tea Party Patriots and they are dealing in a constant stream of dis- and mis-information. They are masters of Orwellian Newspeak rallying around their candidates Sharron Angle, Michele Bachman, Sarah (I’ve gott’em in my sights) Palin, and of course House Speaker Boehner. They are crazy, they are rabid, dangerous, bought and paid for by the Koch brother Oligarchs & Koch Industries of Wichita, Kansas. They are here to kill the American middle class and are ahead of schedule. Up is down. War is Peace.    The Tory Tea Party trains are beginning to run on time!

The First Copper Penny

The First Copper Penny

The first coin authorized by the new United States Congress was a one-cent coin. Because there was not yet a government mint, more than one version of the coin was struck. The design (believed to be suggested by Franklin) shows the sun and a sundial on the obverse, with the words FUGIO and the date 1787. Centered on the reverse is the motto WE ARE ONE, surrounded by the words UNITED STATES and ringed by a chain with 13 links.

The Year of the Steel

The Year of the Steel

The 1943 steel cent, also known as a steelie, was a variety of the U.S. one-cent coin which was struck in steel due to wartime shortages of copper. Due to wartime needs of copper for use in ammunition and other military equipment during World War II, the US Mint researched various ways to limit dependence and meet conservation goals on copper usage.

The Birth of Big Zinky

The Birth of Big Zinky

When the price of copper rose in 1982, the mint was forced to make a midyear change from solid bronze (about 97% copper) to copper-plated zinc. You can find cents dated 1982 made out of both metals. The only way to reliably tell them apart is to weigh them on a sensitive scale. Copper cents weigh 3.11 gm, zinc ones are 2.5 gm. The last copper penny was minted in Denver on October 22, 1982.
